Hey y’all!

Welcome! I’m so glad that you’re here.

My name is Tori Freund (they/them) and I am a full spectrum doula, lactation counselor, childbirth and reproductive health educator, and student midwife living and working in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In addition to being a birthworker, I am also a total book-devouring, DIY/crafting, heart-on-my-sleeve, life-long learner.

You can read more about my work and my life below!

I love people (like really, really love them) and am honored to make it my life’s work to care for and support individuals and families as they navigate reproductive and family-building experiences… as well as just, you know, being humans. Unlike many doulas whose interest in birthwork began with their own family building experiences, I was introduced to birthwork in 2015 by writing a paper on homebirth. As my research stretched beyond the needs of the paper, I slowly began to realize that this was more than just an academic interest for me. In 2018, I was invited to attend my first birth and it turned my world upside down (in the best way possible). I began training as a doula within a few months and founded Greater Love Doula Services (now Greater Love Birth & Community Care) in 2019. Since then, I have continued to expand my knowledge and skills while also gaining experience and networking with other birthworkers all across the country, and the world.

When I first became a doula, I was hesitant to get “too close” to my clients. As I’ve grown in this work, I’ve accepted that it is my nature, and perhaps even the nature of this work, to love and care. Oftentimes, I treat my clients as friends and family, supporting them with my compassion and relationship skills as much as my technical knowledge and expertise. It’s not at all unusual to find me walking the farmers market, prepping meals, having coffee, dropping off treats and goodies, or setting up the nursery with my clients between our scheduled visits.

To me, birthwork and parenthood are political. My work as a doula and educator is grounded in the frameworks of reproductive and social justice, trauma-informed care, and person-centered care. Birthwork is my activism and how I serve and support my community. My lived experiences and identities also inform my work and the ways in which I show up for my clients. You can learn more about how this all shows up in my work by looking through my guiding principles, a living document that evolves alongside my experience and our ever-changing world.

Our lives contain multitudes and I am not just here to support certain versions or pieces of you – I am here to support you as a whole person.

And, because my life isn’t all work (and I am a firm believer in sharing lived experiences to build and deepen relationships), here are a few things that make me, me! I am a pet parent to the most amazing pup named Addie. I am also a loss parent, and I share openly about my experiences with queer family building, pregnancy loss, and trying to conceive after loss on social media. As I mentioned above, I am a giant nerd who loves to learn and do research. I am an avid reader, often reading anywhere from 1-3 books at a time, ranging from historical fiction and memoirs to the latest book on pregnancy and parenthood. I have designed a game of Jeopardy from scratch, performed in and produced two runs of The Vagina Monologues (and have 6-ish years of school and community theater experience), nearly became a photographer and/or graphic artist instead of a birthworker, and enjoy spending time outdoors, whether that be hiking and biking or taking naps in my hammock.

We all deserve to have someone in our corner who meets us where we’re at, and that’s exactly who I hope to be.
