In January 2023, I started my journey as a student midwife via the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) portfolio evaluation process (PEP). This is a competency-based educational evaluation process that allows me to learn midwifery under the supervision of another certified professional midwife and includes hands-on clinical skills as well as didactic learning. You can read more about the process and requirements via NARM’s PEP handout!

If you would like to work with me as your student midwife, I am currently doing my apprenticeship with Lucky Tomaszek, LM, CPM at Transitions Birth Services. As Lucky’s student, her clients are my clients! This means if you hire Lucky as your midwife, you will also have me as part of your care team during your pregnancy, at your birth, and during your postpartum care. If you’re interested in learning more about what it looks like to have a home/community birth with a certified professional midwife and a student midwife, please feel free to reach out to Lucky!

If you’d like to follow along on my journey as a student midwife, you can follow me on Instagram!

More ways to support me while I’m a student:

  • hire me as your childbirth educator or lactation support - I’ll still be teaching in addition to working with Lucky’s practice!

  • hire me to consult on your practice, update your website or handouts, be a guest writer, teach at your school/organization, etc. - I’ve taught workshops for high schools, helped audit inclusivity practices for all sorts of businesses, built and helped update several websites (including my own), and help design handouts for birthworkers and their clients

  • check out my supplies wishlist and my book wishlist - I’ve mostly put these together to help me keep track of things I’ll want/need, but any support in obtaining these things will always be deeply appreciated!

  • I’ll be sharing fundraiser opportunities as I put them together, but in the meantime, if you’re ever in a place to offer financial support towards NARM fees, gas, caffeine, continuing education, etc. my Venmo is @tleighf (and again, any support is deeply appreciated!)
